Communication with the Underworld: From Ancient Literature to Modern Children’s and Young Adult Literature

01.01.2019

The series of workshops focus on ancient Roman and Greek communication with the underworld, and its reception across such a variety of case-studies:

Renaissance Latin (Petrarca), modern Irish and Caribbean literature, and modern children’s and young adult literature. The overall aim is to investigate ancient texts which uncover conceptions, representations and ideas of the underworld in antiquity that profoundly influenced modern European literature and, in fact, the entire European world.

The collaborative group will explore and propose new interpretations of ancient literature in the context of communication with the underworld.
