The openness as well as the fragility of today's Europe is significant. It may seem that the geographical and cultural space of Central Europe will face these challenges more easily, as it will not perceive them so intensely and directly due to its location in the centre of Europe. Of course, such an opinion is misleading. Central Europe is a socially and culturally very diverse space, but it faces very similar challenges.
Europe relies on the key role of educational strategy in its visions and its ability to address fundamental socio-cultural problems. Educational processes support the adoption of certain norms and values that unite us and thus enable us to face "threats" together (more successfully). At the same time, education also "liberates" us from the "rules and logics" of the prevailing social order. Education thus opens up a large personal emancipation space and "divides" us. We can say that it is largely educational institutions, educational personalities that co-create a personal / collective identity that is both a motivator and a force in solving fundamental current social problems. Within the project we ask questions and focus on the processes of pedagogization in the formation of personal/collective identity. Within the project we reconstruct and analyse pedagogical concepts and processes that connect and separate us on a personal and collective level.
The conference aims to thematize and analyze the “pedagogical” significance, the role, the development and origins, the crisis and changes of the educational sciences, as well as their current position in the “hybrid” environment of scientific life in the formation of personal and professional pedagogical identities.
Another goal is to critically reconstruct the pedagogical role of associations, institutions of public education, social-pedagogical institutions, special education institutions and libraries as well as individuals and organizations determining both socialization processes in the formation of personal human identity and professional practices within the pedagogical professionalization of the late 19th and first half of the 20th century.
There is also a interest in the changes during the “second wave” of the professionalization of teachers in the 1970s and 1980s in a divided world – both in the possibilities of free development in the “Western” states and in the states under communist totalitarian power. We also follow the political and social instrumentalization of the “pedagogical task” in totalitarian science and its role in the formation of personal and professional identities in unfree society.
Last but not least, we also want to ask about “what is happening” to the formation of professional and personal identities in the age of globalization and in the context of educational processes taking place in a hybrid way (both physically and digitally).
Project:
1. organise the conference and publish the results of the conference in the monothematic journal Historia scholastica - 1/2023 (SCOPUS and ERIH+ databases).
Organisers of the conference: The National Pedagogical Museum and Library of J. A. Comenius; Charles University Prague (with the support of CENTRAL - Central European Network for Teaching and Research in Academic Liaison); The Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Center for the History of Education); Masaryk University Brno; University of Foggia; University of Dresden; Helmut Schmidt University Hamburg; Technical University Liberec;
2. The project will be followed by a workshop. In winter term 2022/23, a pedagogical-comparative online workshop (What Units and Divides us in Education) is planned on selected problems of education / socialisation and the formation of personal / collective identity in a globalised society. The presenters will be representatives of Central European universities (intended for doctoral and undergraduate students). The submitted project thus follows one of the central goals of the international excellence of Charles University and the universities within the framework of strategic partnership - the development of online teaching and scientific cooperation.
The project is in line with the plan for the development of the subject General Education and Pedagogy, which is being solved within the Cooperatio project at Charles University.
The conference poses questions about actors, prominent figures, institutions and processes:
- How have the institutions of science, education, education of the public and social pedagogical care co-determined the processes not just of self-identification, but also the formation of collective and professional identities and the processes of social and cultural integration/disintegration?
- What means or methods were used by individual pedagogical actors (individuals or associations, educational/scientific or public education institutions, etc.) to support/prevent the formation of the modern, postmodern and global personal as well as collective (professional pedagogical) identities?
- What about professional pedagogical identity and the formation of personal identity in the pedagogical and socialization processes during the second half of the 20th century under the conditions of totalitarian unfree society?
- What about professional pedagogical identity and the formation of personal identity in the pedagogical and socialization processes at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries: digital media, interaction and the digital environment as new spaces and means for the formation of personal and professional identities?
- Which prominent figures from the educational sciences and from educational and public educational life, co-determined or “disrupted”/rejected (whether consciously or unconsciously, intentionally or unintentionally) the pillars of personal and pedagogically professional human identities during the age of modernism, postmodernism and globalization (and digitalization), and how?
The year 2022 as the conference year in Prague was intentionally chosen by the CENTRAL Universities because it reminds of the 140th anniversary of the "national division" by the Karl Ferdinand University of Prague (1882), when in Central Europe, in Prague, Czech science also presented itself as an important and equal scientific partner. At the same time, it is the so-called Comenius Year, when the "national/European" celebrations of the 430th anniversary of his birth are held.
